Biography

Jamie Blot has been the Village Clerk/Assessor since July 2016. Prior to her appointment to the position of Clerk/Assessor, Jamie also held the following positions within the Village of Colonie: Deputy Clerk, Deputy Treasurer, Youth and Recreation Assistant. Jamie has been an employee of the Village of Colonie since June 2003. Other than her roles of Clerk and Assessor, Jamie is the Registrar of Vital Records, Water/Sewer Billing Clerk, Tax Billing Clerk, Chief election officer for Village elections and is a Notary Public. Jamie is responsible for the issuance of FOIL requests, Peddler’s Permits and Water on/off requests. Jamie also serves as the Payroll administrator and human resources person. Jamie also serves as a board member for the South Colonie Central School District.

Alexandra Hart has been the Village Deputy Clerk since April 2017. Prior to her appointment to the position of Deputy Clerk, Alexandra served as an administrative assistant. Alexandra has been an employee of the Village of Colonie since 2012. Other than her role as Deputy Clerk, Alexandra is the Deputy Registrar of Vital Records, Planning Coordinator, Sign Review Board Coordinator, assistant to the Building Department, accounts payable and a Notary Public. Alexandra is also an emergency medical technician. She is a graduate from Colonie Central High School and graduated from the University of New Haven in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in science. She is a former long-time resident of the Village of Colonie.

Biography

Kathy Haas served as the past Village Clerk/Treasurer for over 30 years. In 2008 she retired and is now working part-time as the Village Treasurer. Kathy is the Village of Colonie tax collector and is also a Notary Public. Kathy is a graduate of Colonie Central High School and a former long-time resident of the Village of Colonie.

Julianne Okun has been the Village Deputy Treasurer since April 2017. Prior to her appointment to the position of Deputy Treasurer, Julianne was an administrative assistant. Julianne is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Julianne has been an employee with the Village of Colonie since 2015. Julianne is coordinator for the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Traffic Advisory Committee. Julianne is also a Notary Public. Julianne graduated from SUNY Albany with a bachelor’s degree in English. She is a long-time resident of the Village of Colonie.

Biography

Christina Secor has been the Village of Colonie administrative assistance since October 2018. She is a resident of the Village of Colonie and a lifelong resident of Colonie. Christina is a Colonie Central High school graduate. Married with a daughter, she has been in the hospitality and service industry for 15 years. She also recently became New York State Licensed Real Estate agent. Working in the service industry has engrained a hard work ethic and attention to detail.

Biography

Henry De Cotis was appointed General Counsel for the Village of Colonie in January of 2017.  He began his service to the Village in June of 2007.  He is a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Boston College and the Albany Law School.  Prior to his appointment as General Counsel, he served as an Assistant Attorney General in the New York Attorney General’s Office.  He held many positions within that Office from Attorney Trainee, Associate Attorney,  Deputy Bureau Chief of the Real Property Bureau, Bureau Chief of that Bureau and immediately before his retirement in 2008, he was appointed Interim Assistant Deputy Attorney General for the Division of State Counsel, responsible for all civil litigation in both State and Federal Courts venues in the 52 upstate counties of the State, as well as all transactions, debt collections and contract approvals involving the State.  He has been a resident of the Village of Colonie since 1976.  He is married and has two adult children.

Victor A. Caponera Jr. is the attorney for special boards and commissions for the Village of Colonie. Attorney Caponera has served as a part-time attorney for the Village of Colonie since April of 2001. Attorney Caponera is responsible for providing counsel to the following boards: Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Sign Review Board. Attorney Caponera also assists the Mayor and Board of Trustees with any legal assistance needed. Attorney Caponera graduated from Regis University in 1972, Summa Cum Laude and graduating from Western New England College, School of Law in 1977. BAR admissions: He was admitted in New York before Appellate Division of the Supreme Court for the Third Judicial Department in July of 1977.

Randy Rivera has been a building and fire inspector for the Village of Colonie since June 1, 1995. Randy is also the Storm Water Management Officer for the Village of Colonie.  He is Code Certified by the NYS Department of State. He is a member of the NYS Building Officials Capital District Chapter. Randy is a longtime resident of the Village of Colonie. Randy has been a volunteer fire fighter since 1976, and a volunteer with the Village of Colonie Fire Company since 1988.

Biography

Mike Cerone is head of the Building Department, and has been a building and fire inspector with the Village of Colonie since September 2017. Mike is certified by the State of New York as a Building Safety Inspector and Code Enforcement Official. Mike has Associate Degree’s in Fire Protection Technology and Criminal Justice. He also has a Professional Certificate in Emergency Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is a member of the following organizations: International Code Council, NYS Building Officials Capital District Chapter, NYS Fire Investigators Chapter #23, International Association of Arson Investigators, National Association of Fire Investigators, Capital District Fire Investigators Association and the NYS Association of Fire Chiefs. Mike is also an Emergency Medical Technician. Mike has been a volunteer fire fighter since 1975, and a volunteer with the Village of Colonie Fire Company since 2015.

Les Decker has been the Superintendent of Public Works since June of 2014. Les is in charge of overseeing the Department of Public Works staff, which consists of about 30 employees. Les also oversees the Recreation Department staff. Prior to his appointment to Superintendent, Les also held the following positions: laborer, equipment operator I, equipment operator II, highway foreman and assistant superintendent of public works. Les is a life-long resident of the Village of Colonie and a graduate of Colonie Central high school. Les is a former volunteer firefighter with the Village of Colonie Fire Company, within the Company he was a past lieutenant and is currently a social member. Les has been a Village employee since July of 1998.

Chris Bisognano has been the Assistant Superintendent of Public Works since June of 2014. Chris assists the superintendent with overseeing the Public Works department. Chris is a life-long resident of the Village of Colonie and a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy. Lance Curcuruto has been the highway/sanitation foreman since January of 2015. Lance oversees the highway/sanitation crew with their daily tasks. Prior to his appointment to Highway/Sanitation Foreman, Lance also held the following positions: laborer, equipment operator I and equipment operator II. Lance is a long time resident of the Village of Colonie. Lance is a member of the Guilderland Elks and Sons of the American Legion, Lance rides in motorcycle fundraisers for both organizations. He also does volunteer work for Albany’s Special Events. Lance has been a Village employee since July of 2003.

Chris Ciota is the newly appointed Recycling Coordinator but has been an employee with the Village since 2004. Prior to his appointment as Recycling Coordinator, Chris also held the following positions: laborer, equipment operator I, equipment operator II and worked on the Stormwater MS4 program. Chris is a life-long resident of the Village of Colonie, a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and has a bachelor’s degree from Franklin Pierce University.

Biography

Courtney Sim has been the Administrative Assistant for the Department of Public Works since April of 2014. She is the direct assistant to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Public Works. Courtney handles most of the administrative tasks for the office aspect of the DPW. She assisted with the implementation of our water meter development program and assists with the water meter reading process. Courtney maintains the fuel management program for the Department of Public Works, helps to maintain the Department of Public Works fleet and assists the DPW employees with daily needs. Courtney is a graduate of Guilderland High School and has an associate’s degree from Hudson Valley Community College. Courtney spearheads the annual “Bears, Blankets & Books to Boston: fundraiser for the Boston Children’s Hospital. She is also an active contributor to the following organizations: CHD Awareness, Boston Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Red Cross and Animal Shelters.

Chrissy Lanza has been the Senior Center Director since August of 2014. Prior to her position as Director, Chrissy was a recreation assistant and food service helper in the senior kitchen. Chrissy has been a Village employee since November of 2009. Chrissy oversees the entire HBK Senior Center and its participants. Chrissy is in charge of organizing programs and classes, as well as many other administrative tasks.

Holly Martini has been with the Village of Colonie since May of 2014. She directs the senior kitchen staff on all food services for the Senior Center. Holly is also one of the main cooks for the Senior Center. Holly also helps the Director with many administrative tasks.

Biography

Sue Bredice has worked for the Village of Colonie since June 2011 as am Outreach Worker. She has done extensive community outreach by providing information, referrals and support to our local residents.  Prior to working in the village, Sue was a parent partner and prevention worker through Families Together in Albany County; helping families navigate the complex service systems of children’s mental health, child welfare, developmental disabilities, special education and juvenile probation.  Sue and her husband Barry are the parents of 8 children and former foster parents of many more.  She is active in the South Colonie PTA, is a Special Education Committee Parent Member, and enjoys cheering at her daughter’s sports events.  Sue has won numerous awards for her volunteer work in our community.

Biography

Joan Rueckert has worked for the Village of Colonie since June 2011 as an Outreach Worker. Joan is a graduate of Russell Sage College with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Psychology. She previously taught special education for Albany BOCES. Joan also worked for Families Together as a Parent Partner assisting families that have children with a mental health diagnosis. Joan continues to assist individuals and families by providing information and referrals to community services, resources and government agencies. She also works with the local school district assisting families with questions regarding their child’s education. Joan is the mother of two grown children and has extensive experience caring for elderly family members.

Biography

Brian Casey has been a Youth Monitor at the Family Recreation Center since 2004. He manages the activities of the Family Center and is committed to helping create a safe non-threatening environment for kids and families to come and enjoy. He is a veteran of the US Navy and a retired Colonie Police Officer of 31 years. He was an original Resource Officer at Colonie High School and D.A.R.E. Officer. He has been a Scout leader for over 25 years. He has served on the Colonie Youth Center Board and currently serves on the Board of Education for the South Colonie Central School District. Other than his role as Youth Monitor, he handles all the bookings for the rentals of Village facilities, coordinates with the Colonie High School Alternate Education Program, and reviews bands for the “Tuesday Nights in the Park” Summer Program and is a member of the Amphitheater committee.

Katie Ciota has been a Youth Monitor at the Family Recreation Center since 2015. She helps manage the Family Center and works to create a welcoming environment for all children and families. Katie has a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education and Fine Arts. Other than her roll as Youth Monitor, Katie coordinates the Summer Recreation Program for Village children, helps to edit the quarterly “Villager” newsletter, creates promotional material for Village events, helps coordinate the Village children’s parties, and is a member of the Amphitheater committee.

Carl Fleshman has been with the Village of Colonie since September 1978, starting as a laborer in the Department of Public Works. Over the years Carl has held the following positions: Class 1 Operator, Assistant Superintendent of Public Works and Superintendent of Public Works. Carl retired from the position of Superintendent in 2014, and agreed to return to the Village on a part-time basis. He is now in charge of our special events and he is in charge of and oversees the publicity of all Village publications. Carl is a wealth of knowledge to all things related to the Village. He is a lifetime resident of the Village of Colonie and a graduate of Colonie Central High School.

Donna Fleshman is our historian and has been with the Village of Colonie since August 2016. She attends Village events and takes pictures to document each event held by the Village of Colonie. Being a longtime resident of the Village, Donna has a vast knowledge of all things related to the Village.

Biography

Market Manager Krysta Dennis founded the market with the Mayor and trustees in 2016. The Farmers Market operates from May – September annually, and there are a number of special events associated with the market, including live music weekly, a Holiday Market in December, a corn roast, outdoor yoga, a watermelon-eating contest, and a pumpkin painting event. Krysta is a Board Member of the Farmers Market Federation of New York State, and was one of the first to complete the Farmers Market Certification Program offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension and SUNY Cobleskill.

Krysta also teaches theatre for the Creative Arts Department at Siena College. She holds a dual PhD from the University of Kent in the UK and the Sorbonne in Paris, and trained at L’Ecole Jacques Lecoq. Through her work in theatre, Krysta has fostered collaborations with Siena and local theatre companies for the Frank A. Leak Amphitheatre in the Park.
